Press release :- The Minister of Energy and Minerals Eng. Ahmed Jama Barre, accompanied by the Director General of the Somaliland Energy Commission

Nairobi (January 31, 2025) – The Minister of Energy and Minerals Eng. Ahmed Jama Barre, accompanied by the Director General of the Somaliland Energy Commission, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Abdi (Malow), has concluded a four-day series of meetings in Nairobi, Kenya between the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the World Bank.

The objective of the meetings was to review the progress achieved under the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project (SESRP) and to jointly address the key challenges that require coordinated efforts to overcome.

During the four-day engagement, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, along with the Energy Commission, presented notable achievements and progress made in Somaliland’s energy sector.

In parallel, the SESRP Project Implementation Unit (PIU) and the Energy Sector Working Group (ESWG) delivered detailed presentations on the accomplishments under the project's four main components.

The meeting was officially concluded by Eng. Ahmed Jama Barre, who emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to implementing the agreed time-bound action plans. He also encouraged the World Bank to expedite their internal processes related to the project to ensure timely execution.
