Background

The Internal Audit Unit is a key department within the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. It was established to ensure accountability, transparency, and efficient management of the Ministry’s finances and assets.
The unit operates under government financial management and audit regulations and reports directly to the Minister and the Director General. Its main goal is to make sure that all financial activities, assets, and operations comply with national laws, policies, and financial procedures.

Mission

To provide independent, efficient, and professional internal audit services that evaluate, improve, and strengthen management systems, internal controls, and the proper use of public resources, in line with the principles of accountability and transparency.

Vision

To become a trusted internal audit unit that safeguards public assets and promotes transparent management and full accountability within the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

Functions

1. Review and evaluate the Ministry’s financial, administrative, and internal control systems.
2. Ensure expenditures and revenues are managed according to government rules and policies.
3. Prepare quarterly and annual internal audit reports with findings and recommendations.
4. Support departments in developing effective internal control systems.
5. Investigate and recommend corrective actions for errors, misuse, or corruption.
6. Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and management decisions.
7. Ensure consistency and effectiveness in administrative and operational procedures.
